The Rolling Stones were an alternative to the English pop bands of the 60s, namely the Beatles. Their blues-driven rock and roll was to become the basis of hard rock, to go with their rock-macho showmanship. Yet the Rolling Stones, as musicians, incorporated the other trends from the 60s and from England, like the Beatles and the Who into their music.
